Why DEI Must DIE
The disgusting behaviour of certain American universities which was exposed following the outrages of October 7 last year and the recent almost successful assassination of Donald Trump have highlighted more than anything else the reason this leftist insanity of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion must be shelved.
The former is largely an issue of toxic ideology; the latter one of personal safety, in particular, women in certain professions are being promoted way beyond their level of competence simply because they are women, something known as the Peter Principle. No rational person would claim that women do not belong in the workplace, but the vast majority of women do not belong in the male workplace. For the really dangerous physical jobs there is something called the 4% rule, which is not to be confused with the 1% rule discussed here last month.
Broadly speaking, at the very top of physical excellence, around 4% of the most physically superior women can compete with the men. Here is one example. In 2015, 19 women and 381 men began the US Army’s Ranger Class at Fort Benning, the first time women had been allowed. At the end of the 62 day course, 92 of the men and 2 of the women earned the Ranger tab. One should bear in mind that the people accepted for this course were already the most physically superior, yet only a quarter of the men were deemed good enough.
Women have bigger obstacles not just because they are generally smaller and not as strong as men but because of their biology. They are less competent in stressful situations, and can suffer consequences men don’t. For example, extreme physical training can cause infertility.
The demands of run-of-the-mill policing may not be as severe as for army rangers or Secret Service agents, but promoting women just because they are women is causing problems. In Britain, the first female chief constable was appointed only in 1995, but now around 30% of all senior officers are female, and some of the female chief constables are instituting policies that relegate detecting and preventing crime to a poor second place.
Of equal concern is the recruitment of people of both sexes who are clearly not up to the job. This video shows a trainee officer who was recruited because and only because he is black. The officer in the background can hardly contain his mirth, but really this is no laughing matter.
This DIE garbage is an extension of the American concept of affirmative action, which in plain English means lowering standards so that (especially) blacks and Hispanics can be boosted into high paying prestigious professions like medicine and the law. The lowering of standards to meet these insane diversity targets is ongoing.
There is absolutely no reason that less capable people or even those who suffer from severe disabilities should not be assisted in their education and elsewhere. There have for example been blind lawyers and even blind judges; blindness is a far greater disability than blackness could ever be made out to be, but we have to be realistic. There will never be a blind heart surgeon or a blind crime scene investigator, and society will not be any poorer for that prosaic fact.
