The Right Way To Smear Nigel Farage
Last week, a man accused Nigel Farage of peppering him with anti-Semitic abuse including telling him “Hitler was right”. And there was me thinking Hitler was far right. Obviously a serious allegation to make against any politician, and this anti-Semitic abuse happened...in the 1970s, when they were at school together, seriously.
This sad fellow says he was first approached to talk about this alleged abuse in 2013, which sounds credible, but the claim that he hasn’t heard anything like that since, is not. Or perhaps he has been hiding under a rock since October 8, 2023 when the extreme left on both sides of the Atlantic came out in force, not to protest the outrages of the previous day but to support them.
Attorney General Richard Hermer has said Farage should apologise for this. I have my own issues with Hermer, because I met him once or twice back in the 90s when I was suing the odious Gerry Gable and his hatesheet for defamation. Hermer was then a humble barrister and represented Gable briefly. My colleague, who is not prone to hyperbole, said he was the slimiest character he had ever met.
That aside, we are now informed that more than two dozen people have come forward making similar claims. Truly amazing how people’s memories work, isn’t it?
I am eight years older than Nigel Farage and can still remember many of the jokes I heard in primary school. One went like this:
It was sports day in the concentration camp, and the commandant addressed the inmates at morning roll call.
“Today, in celebration of ze Führer’s birthday, ve vill be holding a sports day. Americans vill play baseball on ze baseball field; Britishers vill play cricket on cricket field; Jews vill play hopscotch in minefield”.
Is that an anti-Semitic joke, an anti-German joke, an anti-Nazi joke, or just schoolkids being schoolkids? Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull said precisely that in a different context.
Leaving such musings aside, this rubbish will have no effect on Nigel Farage because people are wise to these kinds of ludicrous smears now. Anyone who opposes even illegal immigration will be smeared as some kind of bigot, indeed, on a number of occasions, the extreme left here and in France has demonstrated, in effect, in support of migrant rapists and murderers.
There is though one tactic that might just work, that would be accusing Farage of indecent assault or even rape. This has been the Democrat playbook in the United States, although it failed spectacularly with Brett Kavanaugh, and Donald Trump who has been falsely accused of everything from groping to child rape more than a dozen times.
With Farage though, it might just work, all it needs is for one “brave woman” to “come forward” showing “great courage” and tell her story to the media. Then, after an appeal for other “victims” to come forward, sit back and watch fantasists, demented women and plain liars crawl out of the woodwork, out of the gutter and out of the sewer to tell “their truth” about how this powerful man ruined their lives.
You think that can’t happen? It happened to the late Jimmy Savile, to the very much alive Bill Cosby, and is currently happening to Russell Brand.
