The Return Of Tot Mom
A decade and a half ago, Casey Anthony became the most hated woman in America. After being acquitted of murdering her young daughter against the weight of the evidence and released from prison, she would have done well to vanish into obscurity. She hasn’t done that, and some people are angry, including Nancy Grace.
Grace is one of America’s leading legal pundits; when she was a teenager, her fiancé was murdered, which made her a passionate advocate for victims of violent crime. It was Grace who Christened Casey Marie Anthony “Tot Mom”, but many others expressed open hatred for her, especially women.
If you are not familiar with the case, her trial was broadcast live on YouTube, and the videos are still there, but briefly, Casey’s daughter Caylee was born August 9, 2005. Casey has never revealed the identity of the father, and may not even know.
Casey lived with her parents in Orlando, Florida, and they doted on Caylee. Being young, somewhat attractive and a free spirit, Casey preferred to spend time hanging out with her friends and boyfriends rather than look after her daughter. The last time Caylee was seen alive was June 15, 2008; she was probably murdered the same day. In order to conceal her missing daughter, Casey span a series of lies to especially her mother until Cindy Anthony called the police on July 15.
Casey continued to lie, claiming Caylee had been kidnapped by an imaginary nanny; the scale of her lying was really a wonder to behold. She was arrested and held in the county jail for a while on a charge of false reporting, but in October she was charged with first degree murder. What was left of Caylee was found in a wooded area two months later.
She was not brought to trial until May 2011 when the State sought the death penalty. In American courtrooms, the defendant will often not testify, and in her case there was no way the Defense could put her on the stand because she would have been torn to pieces. Instead, it was left for her bullish lead counsel Jose Baez to lie on her behalf. The disgusting lies he told on her instructions about especially her father will not be related here, suffice it to say that the strategy worked and she was cleared of all the major charges.
The trial of Casey Anthony has been compared with the trial of O.J. Simpson, who was guilty as sin of a double murder but acquitted due to what might euphemistically be termed grievances. Casey was acquitted though because she was tried by the dumbest jury ever empanelled in the State of Florida, and they don’t come any dumber than the first juror to give a public interview. She will not be named here although her identity is no secret. She said they didn’t convict because they didn’t have a motive and they couldn’t determine the cause of death.
These were asinine claims. A valid murder conviction does not require a motive, nor does it require a precise cause of death, it doesn’t even require a body. Recall, Casey had been charged with murder while her daughter was still missing. In any case, the State did come up with the motive. In closing, Jeff Ashton said that Casey had to make a choice between her lifestyle with her new friends or her daughter, and unspeakable as it may seem to ordinary people, she chose the former.
After the furore had died down, Casey Anthony disappeared for a while, and there were all manner of rumours about her, one being that she paid her attorney’s fees with her body. There is no credible evidence that Jose Baez ever took her to bed, but sadly there are some men who do find this kind of woman attractive, and one soon latched onto her. Three years ago she was the subject of a highly fictional three part Netflix documentary. Netflix now has a track record for this sort of thing.
Casey’s latest venture though beggars belief even for her. She has opened a TikTok account and a Substack account styling herself as a “legal advocate”. She has already garnered over three thousand followers on Substack. Some people have no shame, even after getting away with murder.
