THE MURDER IN CHARLOTTE: Republicans Pounce!
If you are not familiar with the phrase “Republicans pounce”, it is a cynical commentary on the left wing bias of the mainstream media in the United States, more specifically, when there is a big story - often a scandal involving Democrats in some way - the media does not report the real story but the Republican response to it. A particularly vile example of this happened recently and is ongoing.
The stunningly attractive young woman in the photograph below is, or rather was, Iryna Zarutska. Three years ago, she arrived in the country as a bona fide asylum seeker from war torn Ukraine relocating in Charlotte, North Carolina with her family.
Just 23 years old, she was a talented artist and highly literate, having learned English in a surprisingly short time. She would very likely have furthered her education in due course but was working in a pizza restaurant last month.
On the evening of August 22, she was travelling home on a light rail train, apparently reading messages on her phone, when a small time career criminal with a history of psychiatric problems drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed her in the neck three times.
The murder was caught on CCTV, footage of which can be found all over the Internet, especially YouTube. There are various edits of it, but it will not be linked here. The poor girl bled to death in less than two minutes. Some people have criticised other passengers for not immediately rushing to her aid, but they almost certainly didn’t realise what had happened. The CCTV camera looks down on her directly, and it is clear she didn’t realise what had happened herself. This is not unusual; very often, a stab victim will feel only a dull thud initially.
Violence, including murder, has long become routine on America’s public transport systems, especially in Democrat-run cities, but this was a particularly shocking murder. The local newspaper reported it the following day, including the name of the suspect. His name is now all over the Internet and he has already been convicted in the court of public opinion. Nevertheless, in spite of the overwhelming evidence against him, he will not be named here.
There was a further mention in The Charlotte Observer on August 25, but it was not until August 26 that publications further afield mentioned the murder, including the New York Post and the Times Of India.
It was not though until the release of the CCTV that the story really took off.
A side note here, had this crime occurred in the UK, due to the near immediate arrest of the suspect, the CCTV would not have been released until after his trial, and much of it would have been edited out in consideration of the victim’s family, but this is the USA, not the UK, and on September 8, Charlie Kirk covered it on his YouTube channel in a video called The Brutal Story Every Fake News Outlet Continues to Ignore.
Sadly and ironically, although the story is no longer being ignored it has been somewhat overshadowed by Kirk’s own murder; on September 10, he was cut down by an assassin’s bullet at an open air event in Utah.
The point Kirk made is that the story was largely ignored by the mainstream media because it does not fit the progressive narrative of white perpetrators and black victims. Curiously, it also appears to have been ignored by the stop violence against women brigade.
As he left the train, the killer was heard to say that he had got the “white girl”, which has been interpreted by some as - you guessed it - racism, but it was probably just a description.
So what did the mass media say when finally it reported on the story? Yes, Republicans pounce. Here is a small sample of headlines:
Stabbing video fuels MAGA’s crime message - AXIOS
Trump wades into Ukraine refugee’s murder case claiming ‘Democrats have her blood on their hands’ - The Independent
A Gruesome Murder in North Carolina Ignites a Firestorm on the Right - New York Times
How the right wing in US, Europe is weaponizing murders of Ukrainian refugees - The Kyiv Independent
This last article is by an American living in Ukraine.
The ethnicity of the killer isn’t really an issue in this case, or at least it is certainly not the main issue. He has an extensive criminal history and had also been suffering from delusions; his own mother said he should not have been walking the street.
As Donald Trump rightly pointed out, the senseless murder of Iryna Zarutska is the inevitable result of so-called progressive policies that treat certain offenders as victims rather than perpetrators. Being black, being disadvantaged, being poor, are not excuses for any kind of violent crime, least of all the senseless murders of random strangers committed not for material gain but just because.
Republicans need to keep pouncing on this madness to make America’s streets and trains safe places for all its citizens.
