The Complete Works Of Ted Goodman Are Now On-Line
On February 20, I reported the death of Ted Goodman who passed away at Acorn Care Home, Redhill on February 15. Today, I have some good news to report because I have just uploaded his magnum opus, four substantial manuscripts, and his mother’s memoirs to the Internet Archive.
This means that The EDWARD GOODMAN VIRTUAL ARCHIVE is now as good as complete. I say as good as complete, there are currently around half a dozen unimportant articles and the like to be added, two or three of them little more than a mention. As things stand, for reasons beyond my control, I will not be able to add these until October at the earliest, but for all practical purposes, the archive is complete.
The items I processed today were uploaded to separate pages but they have all been linked from the main page.
The manuscripts are heavy going but will certainly be of interest to many historians. They are as follows:
HIGH PRIESTS & POPES; FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE PRESENT
LEADERS OF THE WEST: FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE PRESENT
RULERS OF ENGLAND: FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE PRESENT
THE JEWISH LINE OF SUCCESSION AND CHRONOLOGY: FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE PRESENT
All capitalised! They were all edited by Ted’s fellow anti-censorship activist, Nigel Meek.
The other two works are his mother’s memoirs and his study of the line of descent of the rulers of Britain – as opposed to the line of succession.
Ted’s mother died in September 2021 at the advanced age of 106. In 2018, I was given the task of editing her memoirs, doing further research, and putting this into a readable form. He had encouraged her to tell her story over a period of several years. I had hoped to present her with her own, personal copy, but partly because of the Covid-19 lockdowns and because nobody lives forever, we finished the book only in time to publish it on the first anniversary of her death.
Ted also gave me a large collection of documents to scan, including photographs, most of which were not used. I will probably set up a separate on-line archive of these at some point because her life was so unique.
He had hoped to publish The Legendary Line Of Descent Of BRITISH RULERS in 2022, the Platinum Jubilee Year, but again there were the Covid-19 lockdowns and other problems, especially his failing health.
He had hoped too to find a mainstream publisher, but in the end he was content to run off a small print run himself as he had done with his mother’s memoirs. Unfortunately, he was hospitalised more than once, and after the last time he was moved to the hospice.
When Mark Taha and I visited him on February 9, he was in a terrible state, but he told me about the manuscripts, and I promised to publish all his works.
I had to re-index The Legendary Line Of Descent...because of last minute corrections and edits, due mostly to the death of the Queen, but was able to publish it as a PDF to selected recipients on May 14. The fact that it can be downloaded for free will, hopefully, ensure a wide readership.
I had hoped Ted would leave me something in his will as he wanted to maintain his Clio-History website. He had promised me a cheque, but he left everything to his wife, and, far, far worse, the website and his blog were both deleted shortly after his death. I will say no more about that except to say that a certain family member (not his wife) objected strongly to his anti-censorship work.
I have though managed to recover everything, and have piggy backed his website on my main website. I will augment it when I have time, but it is for the most part a curiosity and contains little original material, although I have also uploaded these six publications and his blog to it in addition to the Internet Archive.
Although Ted was never an accredited historian, he saw a lot of things many mainstream historians miss, and his blogposts especially contain some interesting insights into the way the world, especially government, really works.
