Carole Cadwalladr’s Codswallop
Last week, I met Carole Cadwalladr, sort of. The details need not concern the reader but I was present when she gave a cyber talk of around twenty minutes followed by questions and answers. I was one of the few allowed to put a question or two to her, and she clearly didn’t like them.
For those not in the know, Carole Cadwalladr is a time-serving journalist who has spent most of her career writing for the national press, in particular The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent, The Observer and The Times.
She is around 55, blonde, very attractive, and smiles a lot, as can be seen below. I don’t like people who smile all the time, especially women; it means they are not to be trusted, and I was right this time. Her main employer in recent years has been The Guardian; its sister newspaper is The Observer, published on Sundays.
The Observer was currently being sold to a company called Tortoise Media, a sale that isn’t going down at all well due to the inevitable redundancies; Cadwalladr spoke about that and also about the harassment she says she has endured on-line, harassment she referred to as sexism and misogyny.
Anyone who has a significant presence on-line can and almost certainly will be targeted by trolls, and on occasion something far more serious. On-line abuse is perpetrated by people of both sexes for a myriad reasons and none. Sometimes this abuse is perpetrated by bots. The abuse women receive is very often sexual in nature; this can include claims that they are whores or worse, and rape threats. Men seldom receive rape threats although they are not infrequently falsely accused of rape, including by women they have never met. Allegations of financial corruption and even murder are not thin on the ground either.
In the United States, high profile media people have been swatted on numerous occasions, a practice that has led to innocent people being killed by trigger happy swat teams, which is often the point. The perpetrators are invariably left wing while the victims are not; Trump supporters have been targeted incessantly, including Tim Pool, who has been swatted countless times. Last month, a teenager named Alan Filion was given a four year sentence for swatting.
Without wishing in any way to excuse the abuse Cadwalladr has received, I should point out that she has never suffered anything like this, and she is surely aware that she can block people on social media. The questions I put to her had nothing to do with abuse though, not of her at any rate. I told her I had recently watched a TED Talk she gave in which she claimed or at least suggested the Brexiteers won the vote because of some mysteriously funded advertisements on Facebook. She had also made that claim in another video I watched; this was a campaign of misinformation, she suggested.
So, I said, what was the notorious Steele dossier, and hadn’t the mainstream media suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story on the grounds that it had all the hallmarks of Russian disinformation? This was a ludicrous claim and one the FBI knew to be false because it had the offending laptop in its possession months before the story broke. It was only due to the efforts of the heroic, legally blind Jean Paul Mac Isaac that the story wasn’t suppressed totally.
Cadwalladr refused to comment on the laptop, but she did comment on the Steele dossier and actually implied that it was genuine. One would have thought she would have had something to say about Hunter as she is so obviously concerned about so-called sexism, because this is a dude who treats women like rubbish – his whores, the decent young woman he impregnated then deserted, even the widow of his brother. Alas...
Re the Steele dossier though, she has obviously been following developments because in addition to alluding to it as “raw intelligence”, she said Donald Trump had recently taken action against the law firm that paid for it. I can’t remember if she used the phrase Executive Order, but here it is.
I may be doing the lady a disservice but she gave me the impression that she wants the war in Ukraine to continue, again implying that Trump is some kind of Putin puppet, that ludicrous Hillary Clinton lie.
Trump has gone on record saying something those as ancient as me have heard for decades, namely that a nuclear war between America and (what was then) the Soviet Union, would mean the end of life on Earth.
I wanted to press on but the moderator cut me off. Cadwalladr ended with the phrase “crazy cat lady” – a reference to her being unmarried and an obvious jibe, suggesting that I was trying to frame her as such. No way, my final word was propagandist, which is clearly what she is.
Whatever her future with the mainstream press, Cadwalladr has now opened a Substack account wherein she rails against the “Broligarchy”, a word she claims to have coined. She didn’t, it has been around for a decade or more, though she might have some claim to popularising it. This particular Broligarchy is headed by Donald Trump and Elon Musk. In a recent article she rails against these men claiming IT IS A COUP. That article is full of such nonsense it is difficult to credit she believes any of it.
Rather than being “an unlawful attack on democracy”, the work of Elon Musk and his team is rooting out financial corruption on an enormous scale and reporting their findings publicly. Here are just four (ludicrous) finds from last week:
$620K for “an LGB+ inclusive teen pregnancy prevention program for transgender boys”
$699K for studying “cannabis use” among “sexual minority gender diverse individuals”
$740K for examining “social networks” among “black and Latino sexual minority men in New Jersey”
$50K for assessing “sexual health” among “LGTBQ+ Latinx youth in an agricultural community”
How many ordinary taxpayers can be happy that public money is being squandered on such “projects” ?
The re-election of Donald Trump has already saved America; another four years of Democrat misrule and tyranny would have been a disaster. Either Carole Cadwalladr doesn’t realise this or she doesn’t care. One of the biggest things Trump has done is remove foreign criminals – criminals with a capital C – like the men who took the lives of these three innocent girls. If she is so concerned about the abuse she experiences on social media, she should count her lucky stars, but if she ventures out alone at night, she should bear in mind that rather than deporting foreign criminals, the Starmer gang is importing more and more of them, and many of these overwhelmingly single men believe they have a right to force themselves on British women, especially blondes like her, as a certain politically incorrect blonde journalist recently pointed out.
